FPRA Pensacola Chapter hosts annual media panel and awards $1,000 in student scholarships

On Thursday, Nov. 18, the Florida Public Relations Association Pensacola Chapter hosted its annual media panel. More than 30 attendees had an opportunity to hear from local media representing WEAR ABC 3 News Pensacola, NewsRadio92.3 | AM 1620, Pensacola News Journal and WUWF 88.1 FM.
 
Panelists included Kimberly Wyatt, who has been in the news industry for over 30 years and has been the WEAR news director for the last 7 years, Bobby Rossi, the afternoon host of Pensacola Right Now since Jan. 2019 with NewsRadio92.3 | AM 1620, Brandon Girod, who has been with the Pensacola News Journal for six years and is the current digital coach, and Tom Ninestine, managing editor at WUWF 88.1 FM with over 20 years in the news industry.
 
The FPRA Pensacola Chapter also awarded two student scholarships. Kenny Porter, a U.S. Military Veteran and junior at the University of West Florida with a focus on public relations, was awarded the Scott R. Harrington, APR, CPRC Scholarship in the amount of $500. Porter is expected to graduate in 2022 and most recently served as the Department of Economic Opportunity Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist and is involved in several clubs such as Student Veterans of America and has completed a work study at the VA Veterans Center.
 
Elijah James, a senior at the University of West Florida with a focus on communications studies, was awarded the Eileen M. Perrigo, APR Scholarship in the amount of $500. James is expected to graduate in Dec. 2021 and is currently interning with the Santa Rosa County Public Information Office and has interned with WEAR ABC 3 News Pensacola on their Friday Night Rivals Crew. Previous awards include the UWF Dean’s List, receiving Bright Futures and Nautilus Scholarships.

About the FPRA Pensacola Chapter
 
Just minutes from the beautiful white sands of Pensacola Beach and home to the famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Pensacola Chapter of Florida Public Relations Association sets the scene for professional development, networking and a whole lot of fun!
 
The Pensacola Chapter was founded in 1957 by Horace W. "Pete" Olcott, public relations director at Gulf Power Company. Originally the Miracle Strip Chapter, the name was changed to give the chapter a more specific identity as other chapters were formed along the Gulf Coast.
 
With a membership that reflect the diversity of the profession in the Pensacola area, the Pensacola chapter is home to members from for-profit corporations, health care industry, social services and not-for-profit agencies, media outlets, public relations and advertising agencies, local government and the military, among other business sectors.
 
The chapter is committed to providing its members with opportunities to connect with other members, the media and the community as well as assisting its members grow as practitioners through local and statewide professional development offerings and accreditation.
