Performs professional public relations and marketing duties coordinating the timely development, administration and release of information regarding COVID-19/CARESACT-related communications throughout. Position reports to the Community & Media Relations Division Director.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Assists and advises with general communications needs, which may include: preparing news releases, drafting remarks, comments, developing public service announcements, taking photographs, social media, working with graphics, updating web pages and/or, performing other related activities.
Consults with staff, conceptualizes and works with multi-media graphic designer on key publications and graphics to support county goals using Adobe Creative Suite including illustrations, brochures, newsletters, social media content, displays, charts, diagrams, email newsletters, PowerPoint, presentations, web, tablet and Smartphone-ready artwork, and other publication projects.
Prepares detailed print specifications and costs, ensure s vendors deliver quality work within budget and deadline.
Ensures consistent branding and integration with online, print and video campaigns.
Responds to and researches inquiries and complaints made by citizens; coordinates efforts to resolve issues with other internal departments, external agencies, and/or other public entities; conducts follow-up with citizens to determine satisfactory resolution of issues.
Working with the Director for Communications and Public Information, provides assistance to the media, conducts research, coordinates interviews with appropriate County staff or elected officials.
Training and Experience
**Candidates with a bachelors degree in communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design or a related field and two years experience in professional public relations work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience are preferred.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles, practices and methods of social media; practices and principles of public information, public relations and marketing; basic copyright laws applicable to design work and creative properties; design and electronic pre-press processes and experience with typography, color, conceptual thinking, print layout, digital production, and post-production; emergency public information policies, methodologies and procedures a plus.
ABILITY TO: Adhere to deadlines while working on multiple, diverse projects; translate communication needs into products that are thoughtful, highly organized, logical, and easy to digest; present information to County officials, staff, and public groups; prepare speeches and articles for publication; operate a vehicle; exercise independent judgment; work under minimum supervision; proofread and edit documents; remain calm and function well under stressful situations; deal effectively with the public, media and officials in a courteous and tactful manner.
SKILLS: Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and sentence structure; proficient in press release writing and AP style; digital photography & photo editing; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and MS Office /Windows OS platform programs required. Additional computer program expertise a plus.
Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Incumbents may be subjected to travel.
