The Director of Development will work closely with the UMCH President/CEO, Executive Director of Embrace Florida Kids and UMCH’s Sr. Vice President of External Affairs. The main responsibility of this position is to develop new and existing relationships with individual and institutional donors and supporters. This position requires an incredibly high standard of social/emotional intelligence that is usually innate but can be acquired with many years of experience. Planning special events and travel over a multi-county area is required. Must be able to work flexible hours.
The individual selected for this positon will demonstrate a high level of innovation, as well as superior organizational and verbal communication/public speaking skills. The ideal person will be comfortable operating in a number of different contexts to include religious, social, government, and corporate settings as they work at expanding the support base of UMCH.
Strong professional connections and/or development experience is a plus. Individuals with strong for-profit marketing/business development experience who wish to transition to the non-profit world will also receive strong consideration.
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, Business or related field from an accredited college or university or related field required. Five (5) years paid work experience in development/public relations/fundraising/sales in a non-profit or for-profit setting required. Or alternative professional experience and/or education that would strongly suggest an ability to perform the primary duties of the position will be considered. Desire to work in a dynamic and mission driven environment. Extremely high proficiency in executive functions skills to include effective communication skills with people from all socioeconomically backgrounds, including oral and written communication and maintain high work quality and even temperament despite increases in work load. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate initiative, be highly organized, demonstrate the ability to calmly and professionally respond to changing situations and able to manage multiple projects while prioritizing work assignments and also have excellent calendar management and proactive planning skills. Ability to demonstrate skills and accomplishments in development, communications/marketing, and social media required with acute attention to accuracy and detail in all aspects of responsibility. A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be a team player who breaks down silos and crosses department lines to work as a team. Working knowledge of the community, nonprofit organizations, and the social and economic structure of the community. Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong judgement when working with sensitive information. Proficiency in computer use and understanding of basic word processing and spreadsheet software required (e.g., Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Must pass an extensive background check that includes a check of professional and personal references, education, criminal history thru Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination that includes a drug screen and TB skin test.
